Sewell is lead sponsor of new Education Awards

Hull Daily Mail and Sewell encourage schools and higher education organisations to shout about the great things.

The Hull Daily Mail has recently launched the Golden Apple Awards, in partnership with Sewell Group. The awards cover a broad scope of areas that contribute to making schools a better place to learn and work. On launching the awards Neil Hodgkinson, Hull Daily Mail Editor said:

“No other public service is more emotional, more analysed and more discussed by the public and politicians. No other sector is criticised and maligned by people who often should know better. In our opinion, no other key ingredient to the wellbeing of our society deserves a night of simple celebrating than education.”

The awards, that aim to showcase talent and committment from staff in all roles, span 11 different categories. Paul Sewell, Managing Director, Sewell Group said:

“The Golden Apple Awards provide us with an opportunity to celebrate best practice across Hull and East Riding and recognise those organisations and individuals who go the extra mile for future generations. We’re proud to be the main sponsor.”

Sewell Group has a long and distinguished history delivering quality educational facilities across the region. In 1999, Sewell opened the first private finance initiative school in the UK at Victoria Dock. The company has also played an integral role in the £400m Building Schools for the Future Programme, which has seen Hull’s secondary estate transform. The new and refurbished facilities will ensure every child in the city has access to state-of-the-art learning facilities.

Alongside the bricks and mortar, Sewell has partnered with  a number of local schools through its Skills Academy, a hands-on construction experience which has seen more than 1000 young people across the region develop their employability skills.

Mr Sewell continued:

“Schools are more often than not judged on league tables and exam results, but, from our experience working with schools across the region, there are a lot of other great initiatives that make a school a better place to learn and work. I’d like to encourage all schools and higher education organisations to enter and together we can shout about some of the great things happening in local education.”
