Parallel help people get moving
Parallel have been working with charity Move The Masses to support people to improve their wellbeing through exercise.
Move The Masses are a charity who aim to create healthy communities by breaking down barriers to exercise, especially for the most vulnerable.
The charity, who are based in York, wanted to launch a ‘Move Map’ to enable people to find nearby outdoor gyms and trails where they can keep active for free.
Parallel created an interactive map for the charity’s website where users can locate all the outdoor gyms, ‘trim trails’ and workout challenges in their area. As well as seeing the location of the gyms, budding athletes can also filter to see gyms with specific equipment types, such as monkey bars, or cardio equipment.
Parallel CEO Claire Harrison said that the company’s developers had enjoyed working on the Move Map.
“So much of our work is around high level health data, such as population demographics, that allow organisations to plan their strategies around huge schemes such as locating new health centres, rolling out new services or positioning vaccination clinics. It’s been great to have a chance to donate our time to a project that individuals can access and use, to help them make the most of community exercise facilities and empower them to be able to take action to improve their own health.”
Becci Blues, CEO of Move The Masses, said:
“It’s fantastic that Parallel have been able to help us create such a valuable resource to have a direct, positive influence on the health of people and communities. The map looks amazing, and has already been used by lots of people to get themselves moving and reclaim their local public spaces as places to exercise.”
