Strategic advice underpinned by technical expertise
Our teams from Shared Agenda and Sewell Construction attended the Education Estates 2023 conference and exhibition this month, where they showcased how our consultancy expertise can help the education sector solve its estates and net zero challenges.
Across the two-day conference our teams spoke to delegates about some of the biggest challenges they face at the moment, which ranged from condition and capacity issues to financial pressures and the journey to Net Zero. See the results of our poll below.

Delegates at Education Estates had many of the same challenges, whether they were from a secondary, further or higher education establishment. People were hard pressed to choose just one answer, but with many of them being responsible for the school estate, concerns around the journey to Net Zero came out top, with several not knowing where to start or in what order to take the steps they needed. Other focus areas were around condition of buildings, operational running costs and pupil planning. We posed the question ‘What’s your biggest estates challenge?’ The results were as follows:
Journey to Net Zero – 24%
Addressing condition issues – 22%
Operational running costs – 20%
Meeting curriculum and pupils’ needs – 19%
Capacity – 15%
REFIT_2050: FUTUREPROOFING THE
PUBLIC SECTOR ESTATE
The journey to Net Zero is complicated. Building owners & operators must contend with ethical pressures, rising energy costs and constantly shifting policies. All whilst continuing to operate ‘business as usual’ and ensuring their estate is in line with statutory compliance. Refit_2050 helps building and portfolio operators identify ‘what to do’ and ‘in what order’ helping to simplify the transition to Net Zero whilst also taking stock of basic short term needs and ongoing pressures of building operation.
