Taking the scenic route with South Cave Scouts
As a local convenience store, we want to be part of the community. It’s really important to us that we go above and beyond to support local causes, whether that’s fundraising for Dove House Hospice, or providing ‘safe havens’ for local running groups.
Helping give young people a chance to get on in life is something we’ve always been keen on, so for the past few years we’ve been supporting South Cave Scouts to put on their annual ‘Golden Fleece’ event.
The Golden Fleece is a run/walk created by South Cave Scouts in memory of their late chairman, Bob Gunby. Bob was a keen walker and outdoor person, and the Scouts wanted to put on a challenge walk to honour his memory, and help raise money for their Scouting troop.
There are two options for the event, with a long route at 27.5 miles and a shorter route at 15 miles, both setting off from the village of South Cave, not far from our South Cave store.
We couldn’t let people take on the course without sustenance, so each year we’ve provided £500 of stock, including water, flapjack bars and snacks, to be distributed during and after the race. We also got in touch with a few suppliers, who donated more items, including boxes of crisps from Pipers Crisps, who are based just over the river in Lincolnshire.
Sewell on the go Manager Emma Kordhaku said:
“We look forward to the Golden Fleece Walk every year, as it’s great to see hundreds of people come together to raise money for such a worthy cause. We’re glad to be able to provide the fuel to get people through the miles, and wish everyone luck who’s taking part, we cross our fingers every year for good weather!”
Claire Moverley, from South Cave Scouts said:“It’s so heartening to see the turnout for our Golden Fleece challenge every year, but it wouldn’t happen without the support of local businesses such as Sewell on the go. We’re so grateful for everything they provide to keep people going around the event, they’re a great company doing great things in their community.”
The next Golden Fleece challenge takes place on 1 March 2025, and you can find out more at https://www.facebook.com/TheGoldenFleeceCircuit.
