Sewell on the go Board members complete the London Landmarks Half Marathon

Two Board members from Sewell on the go successfully completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 12 April, raising vital funds for East Yorkshire-based hospice, Dove House.

While taking part in the 13-mile race, alongside 20,000 other runners, they passed 16 famous landmarks in the capital, such as the Tower of London, The Shard, Big Ben and Nelson’s Column.

Patrick Sewell, Sewell on the go MD, said:

“I was really concerned about this as, while I’m an active person, I’ve never ran anywhere near a half marathon before. The training was hard, but I knew those who rely on Dove House Hospice’s services are going through much harder times. The charity makes a huge difference to people at the most difficult part of their lives, and I’m really proud to say that I’ve managed to complete this challenge to raise funds for them.”

Patrick completed the race in 2.09.15, alongside Sewell on the go Board Advisor, Deb Oxley, who completed it the race in 1.58.51, and together, they’ve raised over £6,000 for the hospice.

Deb said:

“We entered the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for a really important local charity in the Humber, Dove House, which cannot sustain its services without significant fundraising. I’m so pleased that our efforts will support the work the hospice does. The run was fantastic, and I was so pleased to gain a PB too!”

Dove House Hospice has been caring for the people in Hull and East Yorkshire for almost 40 years, with patients and families at the centre of everything they do. Their person-centred care focuses on the person and their needs, not just their illness, and their team take the time to get to know their patients and their families to help Dove House become a home-from-home experience. If you’d like to support them through volunteering, or fundraising, take a look at their website.

Jonny Bottomley, Partnerships Development Fundraiser at Dove House Hospice, said:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Patrick and Deb for pushing themselves so far out of their comfort zone to take on this challenge for Dove House. Training for and completing a half marathon is no small feat, but when it comes down to it, they were pushing themselves to help people facing the end of their lives, and to ensure those going through the heartbreak of losing a loved one can be supported. Their efforts and the funds they have raised will make a real difference to local patients and families when they need us most.”
