Sewell to Offer Traineeships
Sewell on the go will be supporting a new training programme which aims to give young people a helping hand into work or an apprenticeship with East Riding College.
Traineeships are being rolled out nationally to help young people gain work experience and improve their essential skills so they can make their first steps on the career ladder. Sewell on the go has teamed up with the college to organise work experience placements which are key to the success of the Traineeships.
The courses are aimed at people aged 16 to 23 who are keen to work as soon as possible and include help with interview techniques and CV writing. Principal Derek Branton said:
“Traineeships are for young people who are in the ‘catch 22’ situation of really wanting to work but not having the work experience needed to make their job application stand out.”
“By providing the placements and developing learners’ English, maths and other employability skills, Traineeships aim to give people the boost they need to strengthen their CV and secure their first job or apprenticeship.”
Traineeships typically last 20 weeks or less and are structured around work experience, with attendance at the College helping with preparation for job interviews and writing a CV, improving essential English and maths skills, and tasters in a particular vocational area.
Patrick Sewell, Managing Director of Sewell on the go said:
“As a local company, serving over four million customers a year, it’s important that we support the development of our region, local communities and future generations.”
“Traineeships are a great idea and one we fully support. They provide young people with hands-on employability skills such as communication, team work and problem solving that complement academic studies, preparing them for the world of work. We’re pleased to be supporting East Riding College with this scheme.”
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economy, investment and inequalities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:
“Ensuring our young people have the relevant skills to compete in today’s jobs market is a top priority for this council. I am delighted that students from East Riding College will undertake placements within our catering service which will help them gain first-hand experience and put what they have learned into practice.”
People who enrol on a Traineeship may be entitled to financial support, such as free transport, help with equipment costs and a bursary, subject to eligibility. For further information on Traineeships and how to enrol, call 0845 120 0037 and ask to speak to a guidance officer.
