Sewell brings learning to life for primary school pupils
Pupils at an East Hull primary school are celebrating after Sewell Construction revamped its existing wildlife trail free of charge to help create an outdoor learning zone.
Giving back to the local community with support from Sewell’s supply chain contacts, an area of Cavendish Primary School playground in Cavendish Road has been refurbished by the construction team, providing the school with a purpose-built zone to attract wildlife and find out more about nature.
Joe Cooper, Assistant Site Manager at Sewell Construction, said: “With great support from our supply chain, we tidied up a wooded area at the school and removed any excess branches which fell from nearby trees, removed and replaced existing dated and rotten timber edging, and created a new bark surface area.
“Wildflower seeds have also been planted and bat and bird boxes, picnic benches and signs to identify the different types of trees in the area have been installed.
“It was a really good project to work on, especially because garden areas are not something we focus on every day.
“We’ve built up a really positive relationship with everyone at the school and it was great to be involved with really generous backing from our supply chain.”
The four-week project is now complete and pupils can start to enjoy their new outside environment.
James Dinsdale, Acting Headteacher at Cavendish Primary School, said: “From the minute Sewell Construction agreed to carry out the work, it has been a real pleasure to see the project come to fruition.
“From the detailed planning and regular communication, through to the professional approach of all of the team onsite, the whole process was seamless.
“The final outcome is fantastic. It will give our pupils a safe space to learn about nature on their doorstep and gives them a space to work in away from the classroom.
“Thank you so much from everyone here at Cavendish.”
Alongside free labour from the Sewell Construction team, the supply chain contributions included:
- Tony Cook Group – Timber edging, bat and bird boxes, picnic benches and wildflower seeds
