Recognition for a Lifetime of Achievement
Our very own Dr Paul Sewell OBE has been awarded the Mail News and Media Business Awards Lifetime Contribution Award.
More than 300 people from local businesses around the region gathered last night to celebrate and recognise individuals and organisations that have helped to drive the local economy, boost jobs and wealth and contribute towards making a difference for the region.
Catherine Lea, Mail News and Media Business Editor said:
“As well as being Managing Director of Sewell Group Dr Paul Sewell OBE is also the founder of Humber Biz Week, a co-founder of the For Entrepreneurs Only (FEO) Group and a driving force of the Yorkshire International Business Convention.”
“In 2011, Sewell Group achieved national recognition after being ranked seventh best company to work for in the UK by the Sunday Times.”
“It was the third year running the firm made the top 100 – the only company in Hull to do so. Mr Sewell has also been at the forefront of a number of initiatives geared towards helping the region grow stronger economically.”
On receiving the award Paul Sewell said:
“I feel humble to be spoken of in these terms in front of the achievers in our business community here tonight and honoured to be part of that community for all these years. Recognition from peers always means a lot. They tend to know more of who you are and what you do, what the real achievements are and the hard work and failure that always precedes any success.”
“I am lucky to have been able to make a contribution whilst having so much fun and to see the schools, health centres, petrol forecourts and their convenience stores, for with what we do we are lucky to have the fruits of our labours there to see as we drive around our community and see that community benefit, that’s a real buzz!”
“But above all it is about the people. It is they that get me out of bed in a morning and will do so for many years yet! For I believe that fundamentally business is about people being of service to people, in one way or another. So much so that when I am asked about achievements I can truly say that there are dozens, for every year I see people who I work with and for that have grown to be much better than me. I thank them, for I now work amongst the most talented bunch imaginable!
“I thank the judges for thinking of me and recognising the achievements of that bunch, in this most fantastic and memorable way.”
