Lifesaving helipad relocated following land lease deal
The Shared Agenda team has helped NHS officials to negotiate a land lease deal, enabling plans for a multi-million pound Urgent and Emergency Care Centre to go ahead.
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is leasing the 11,880sq m land at Scarborough Hospital from North Yorkshire County Council as it needed to relocate its helipad on the same site to make way for the expansion.
The new centre will be home to services including the hospital’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) department and building work is now underway.
Chris Bowes, Capital Projects Manager at the Trust, said: “Shared Agenda has been really supportive and we’ve worked well together. We’re really pleased with the lease and land valuation work they’ve done.
“We’ll be able to accept more helicopters, as the helipad is bigger than the previous one, and it will be illuminated to accept night flights. This will be a huge and potentially lifesaving benefit to patients, residents and visitors, as helicopters can land here 24/7 rather than having to fly further afield.”
The helipad has been funded by the HELP Appeal, a charity run by the County Air Ambulance Trust which funds hospitals helipads across the country.
Issy Whitelock, Consultant at Shared Agenda, said: “We’re delighted to work with the Trust to identify this land and coordinate arrangements to enable work for the much-needed expansion plans to go ahead.
“This will make a huge difference to the Trust and its many patients and staff for years to come.”
