Dear Secretary of State…

At this year’s Healthcare Estates event, our presentation took the form of an open letter to the new government, highlighting the major estates and facilities issues facing the NHS that they need to consider during this parliament.

With both of us having worked on health estates projects for more years than we’d like to count, we’ve seen governments change and we’ve worked with numerous NHS organisations. We’ve also had experience seeing projects through from conception through build and completion into operation, whether that’s the LIFT buildings we manage or the NHS schemes we help bring to life.

Through all of this, we’ve seen certain key themes emerge. Some of these were picked up in the recent Darzi report, and others are from our own experiences. Here’s what we think the government needs to do to help the NHS ensure its estate remains fit for the future.
