As the region’s only Sunday Times Top 10 Company to Work For, Sewell Group has announced it will be opening its doors in Biz Week to share its secrets of how great people lead to great results for customers.

2012 was a year of significant delivery for Sewell, having successfully developed over £70m worth of education, health and community facilities, all on time, on budget and importantly keeping staff and users safe throughout the developments. Paul Sewell, Managing Director of Sewell Group, says this track record is down to the business’ engaged workforce:

“Our customers expect the highest of standards and to meet their expectations you must have an enthusiastic, committed workforce, who are willing to listen to what your customers want and then go the extra mile to delivery it. In turn you need to support them, care for them and encourage their personal development.

Some may not fully understand the added value of employee engagement and training, but last year we saw the priceless benefits of having an organisation full of knowledgeable, engaged people with the right attitude.

The team that delivered Malet Lambert School are a prime example. That was a tough project, the most challenging I’ve seen in my years in the construction industry. The development was at the heart of the school grounds, we had to work around the health and safety challenges of an operational site with 1700+ users.  We delivered at Malet because of the passionate individuals who were dedicated to making it a success; they worked closely with the school and made it work.”

The Malet Lambert story and the lessons learnt will be a key discussion point within the Sewell Business Week STEP session on the 5th June. Paul continued:

“We’ve learnt over the past few years how well trained and engaged people are crucial to successful delivery and we’re keen to share these lessons with other businesses. That’s also why we’re developing our health, safety and training side of the business, to ensure other businesses are adequately trained to deliver safely for their customers, and so our partners know how to manage their health, safety and compliance risks within their facilities.

Through our training and employee engagement we’re able to ensure our people are focused on what matters, now our training division will help other businesses do the same.”
