Hundreds of people turned out for the finale of Humber Business Week 2017.
The Business Day, a unique business networking event launched this year, was held at Bridlington Spa on Friday, June 9th.
It included keynote speeches from Baroness Brady of Knightsbridge CBE, who is one of the most influential, high profile and respected female business leaders in the UK, and BBC World Affairs Editor John Simpson CBE, a journalist, broadcaster, columnist and accomplished author.
Comedian, actor, quiz show host, singer, adventurer and presenter Alexander Armstrong hosted the day-long event, as well as chairing a debate covering local, national and international current affairs.
The day also saw a series of activity sessions from Yorkshire Dance in partnership with Sewell Group as the business announced it is the Presenting Partner for LGBT 50.
The national event, which this year celebrates 50 years since decriminalisation of homosexuality, will take place in Hull in July as part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017.
Three surprise dance sessions took place throughout the day and saw guests take part in a choreographed dance to the well-known song “Rebel Rebel” by David Bowie.
As well as this, two other Sewell Group breakout sessions took place on the day which included Paul Sewell going head to head with Jamie Peacock in ‘The Anatomy of Business Champions – The Rematch’, which saw Jamie reign as champion and Jamie and Tommy Coyle joined Sewell in another session about building business and community champions.
Sponsors of The Business Day, included East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull City Council, University of Hull, KCOM, Welcome to Yorkshire, Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), For Entrepreneurs Only and Spencer Group, who each ran their own interactive zone to compliment the rest of the day and ensured attendees took away as much business inspiration as possible.
Cllr Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, was delighted by the outcome of the day.
He said “Our first event was a great success. Working jointly with The Business Day’s main sponsors allowed us to build around the concept of business networking and also include a top-tier line-up of speakers too including Baroness Karren Brady and John Simpson. We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout and the feedback has been fantastic.”
