Careers with Sewell Group

Want a career that gives you the opportunity to grow? You’re in the right place.

As one of the UK’s top companies to work for (as proven by the Sunday Times Top 100 over the last 10 years – not to brag or anything!), we have a huge focus on our people and making sure they’re cared for, talented and unleashed – after all, without our team we’d be pretty lost.

Employee Ownership Trust

We're a Co-Owned business

Those working for our estates businesses are also co-owners.

Our majority shareholder, Paul Sewell, moved 25% of the company’s shares into an employee ownership trust, meaning our people are now Co-Owners in the business, giving them a greater say in how the business is run and the potential to share in any company profits.

Having a positive impact

driven by our culture

It’s what sets us apart. Doing the right thing by our people, caring for our planet, and having an impact on the places where we work is what drives us every day. What unites us is our culture, and our core behaviours that drive our actions every day. And that’s why our clients, customers and partners trust us to deliver.

The Sewell World

We recognise that people spend a lot of their time at work, which is why we have lots of opportunities for people to do what they enjoy and have an impact on the world that goes beyondtheir career, the office, site, or store.

From regular social events and wellbeing activities, to flexible working and five paid volunteering days every year, a career with Sewell is about much more than just work.

A pledge to support those who have served

Armed Forces Covenant

In 2021, the Sewell Group pledged to support the armed forces community by signing the Armed Forces Covenant. As a Group, this is something we’ve always been passionate about, and signing the covenant has reinforced our commitment to help those who have served, and their families, to find employment.

Creating opportunities

Gateway Project

In 2021, we made a pledge to triple our investment in graduates, apprentices and trainees over the next five years in support of local economic recovery and support those who may struggle to enter the world of work. Our Gateway Project provides participants with a mix of real-world experiences and motivational activities that will provide skills that will not only support the participants career journeys, but also give them transferable life skills too.

CHOOSING YOUR PATH
Career Progression
Our senior business leaders all recognise the difference between management and leadership. Good systems and processes are the price of entry in today’s chaotic, fast-moving world. Good leadership, combined with a ‘can do’ culture, makes all the difference. We encourage all our people to be leaders. We support them in this journey with a combination of formal training and techniques, alongside personal development, and support, to be the best leaders they can be. Leadership is a choice, not a position.

BENEFITS FOR YOU

We have a performance culture and our people are given the freedom to make decisions, manage projects and do what they think is right – with the support of the wider team. It’s why so many of our people have worked with us a long time; they spot a new opportunity and have the chance to make it a reality.

Employee satisfaction and wellbeing are central to our ethos – we know our people work hard and we want to make sure they’re rewarded. Our Sewell Group EVP (employee value proposition) gives our people access to a range of benefits, including discount in our Sewell on the go stores, free gym membership, professional development, access to wellbeing support and advice and financial incentives through our bonus scheme.

We rarely recruit externally
for management

“We’ve got a really strong family culture. A Lot of our people are grown from within, we very rarely recruit externally for management or supervisory positions, they’re all internal.”

Katherine was studying a childcare diploma when she took on a part time job at a former Sewell shop in Swanland in 2002. She’s now our Sales Director, working behind the scenes carefully planning which products prices and promotions will encourage customers onto the forecourts.
